Technion Healthy Aging Institute
Global life expectancy has increased dramatically, but healthspan has not kept pace. By 2050, more than 2.1 billion people worldwide will be over the age of 60, creating an unprecedented burden of chronic disease and disability.
Bridging the gap between longer life and better health is one of the most urgent challenges in modern medicine. Founded in 2024, the Technion Healthy Aging Institute addresses this challenge through a unique, integrated model that unites clinical medicine, molecular biology, engineering, and data science. Its Lifespan Cohort is set to follow 1,000 individuals annually across biological, physiological, and social domains, while strategic partnerships with Israel’s largest HMOs and hospitals are being established to expand this effort to tens of thousands more.
Designed as an accelerator rather than a traditional research center, the Institute aims to rapidly translate discoveries from the laboratory to the clinic and population—redefining aging as a period of vitality, resilience, and opportunity.
The Technion at the Forefront of Human Health
Recognizing that human health is one of the grand challenges of the 21st century, the Technion founded the Technion Human Health Initiative (THHI) in 2020 to support multidisciplinary research that can be translated into real and measurable improvements in human health.
